The Benefits of Being a Chemistry Major

Today was a really excellent day in the lab. We started out with a three hour group meeting, which was far more exciting than it sounds. I got to learn the specifics of just what I was doing, and we talked through a lot of issues that the research was having. It was super awesome.

The meeting ended with a group lunch at this fabulous little place called The Slab. It is a fantastic pizza place literally like one hundred yards from campus. I walked in, and the owner asked me what I would like. My favorite thing to do at new restaurants is ask the person serving me what I should get. He found out a little bit about my food preferences and then recommended a couple. I went with the chili verde pizza. OK, first of all, can we talk about how LARGE the pizza slices are? You can order in two sizes, a slab and a whole pie. Don't even worry, a slab is a quarter of a pizza. A whole 20' pizza! That thing was bigger than my head! To give you an idea, I couldn't even finish it. And as all of you know, I am no stranger to eating more than is necessary. Also, the pizza was amazing. So delicious. I am definitely going back there.

Just a little taste of how great my lunch was today.

Another great thing that came out of this group meeting was the life direction I gained. For the past little while, I have been considering getting an MBA and then going to work for a chemical company. I kind of thought I had made this career path up, and so I dropped it for a while, but then I met Andrew. He works for a chemistry company up here. He is the rep for the research we are doing, and probably some other ones as well. Basically he gets to go around and talk about chemistry, make sure everything is progressing and running smoothly, travel all around the world, and take people out to dinner. What a fantastic life. He also dresses really well. Isn't this what I am going for?? Yes! So I may have found my career goal, four days into this internship. I couldn't ask for anything better!

To put the cherry on top of my wonderful day, Chris and Tom are coming down, and then we are going to hit up Cedar! I can't wait to see my crew!

Ha-random funny moment. Last night I told my roommates that I didn't eat sweets. One of my roommates sat there just thinking for a while, and then said, wait, what about when you get married? Is your husband just going to shove a carrot in your face? Hahaha picture that with me, please. So great.

My Life as a Zoobie

I don't even know where to begin. My life is AWESOME. My roommates are amazing--seriously, so nice, and super funny. My job is absolutely fantastic, I am working on a super cool project with a hilarious grad student and other randoms who pop in occasionally that crack me up. Not only that, but every other comment is a science joke. What more could I ask for??

The only downside is how much I miss everyone at home. Crew, I miss you!

It has been super bizarre to hear all of the church-related references here. I have gotten numerous visits where they have just handed me a zip sheet without even verifying that I am LDS. Which, of course, I am, but it's bizarre. There have been so many jokes that only Mormons would understand, mission references that everyone gets, and Ensigns in every office. It's weird, but I love it. It's amazing being surrounded by the spirit constantly. I feel good all the time here, it's like I am constantly being reminded of who I am and what I stand for.

So I am loving it, but I am quickly running out of things to do. What does Provo have to offer? I need suggestions.

The Crew

This is my crew. They are some of the best people I know, and they inspire me on a daily basis. I constantly laugh whenever I am around them, and I appreciate the goals that we all share. They are the best friends I could ask for. This summer is going to be full of adventure, and I am so excited to experience it with these amazing people.
